Today's regular readers are writing about something they use every week. Your part is helping your team describe things the way they would to a friend, with no prices or promises.

Team message

Say it the way you'd tell a friend

Hi team! Quick practice for today. Write two sentences about something you use every week, the way you'd describe it to a friend over coffee. Leave out prices and results. Drop yours here and I'll share mine too.

Plain, personal descriptions are easier to read and keep everyone clear of product claims.

Make it yours

Use this as a starting point and swap in your own details.

  • What would you write for your own two sentences?
  • Where does your team like to share practice posts?

One reader’s version: Hi friends! Little homework, I promise it's fun. Tell me about one thing you reach for every week like you're telling your best friend. No prices and no results. Mine is the hand cream I keep in my car.

Coaching move

Point out what sounds like them

When people share their practice sentences, reply to each one with the line that sounds most like the person who wrote it. Skip grammar notes and word swaps for now.

When people hear which part sounds like them, they write more of it next time.

If a sentence drifts toward a result or a promise, message that person privately and help them rewrite it.

  • Whose practice post do you want to reply to first?
  • What do you usually notice in a person's writing?

One reader’s version: I told Renee, "The part about keeping it in your gym bag sounds exactly like you." She wrote her next post the same way.

Leadership post

How I talk about what I use

I've stopped trying to sound like an ad when I talk about things I use.

Now I describe them the way I would to my sister. Where I keep it and when I reach for it.

It's made posting feel easier, and I hope it makes reading my posts easier too.

What's something you'd tell a friend about this week?

Keep it about the habit of talking plainly. The post works without naming any product.

Make it yours

Use this as a starting point and swap in your own details.

  • Who do you picture when you describe something you like?
  • What changed when you stopped sounding like an ad?

One reader’s version: I used to write posts like a commercial. Now I write them like I'm texting my mom. She's my toughest critic, so it keeps me honest.

Tomorrow: the voice note that helps a new team member feel at home in their first week.
